TYEE GO GREEN! IS BACK.
GO GREEN! ONLINE ZUMBA and FOOD RECIPE CHALLENGES
"your  health is your responsibility"

Zumba was initially incorporated to the GO GREEN! activities to encourage healthy living and establish a healthy open free-spirited environment between TYEE GO GREEN! and the youth volunteers.

Due to the popularity of our last Zumba event and the success so far, we have decided to further promote Zumba as well as selling to the youth a rather youthful, enjoyable fun and very educational approach to Zumba.

Zumba is currently an initiation activity we use to welcome our TYEE GO GREEN! volunteers into the initiative, with the idea that even though we focus on contributing to the environment and climate change while encouraging the youth to join in that movement, we must first start with ourselves and emphasize on self-care and promote healthy living all the while maintaining a green and healthy environment simultaneously.

"A big MALO 'AUPITO to Director Vanessa Lolohea and Mausa Halahala from Tonga Youth National Congress (TNYC), for the suppliant of our very first TYEE GO GREEN SEWING MACHINE.  We have collaborated with TNYC to fight plastics in Tonga by recycling and reusing clothing wastes.

This partnership strengthens our bond as well established and recognised local Youth NGO's in Tonga and will have a greater impact on the environment and Climate Change as well as our youth.

The TYEE GO GREEN! held another successful BBQ fundraiser to start off their Y2020 activities.

BSP Bank Nuku'alofa, 14th February 2020:  The TYEE GO GREEN! kick started their Y2020 activities with a team building Zumba session for the new GO GREEN! volunteer recruits in leading up to the GO GREEN! BBQ fundraiser event which was held at the BSP Bank Nuku'alofa on Valentine's Day.

TYEE GO GREEN! BBQ fundraiser has been made possible for us since last November 2019 with the wonderful support and sponsorship of the BSP Bank Tonga by offering their wonderful BBQ facility and venue for us to use and also the shirts and caps for our volunteers.

The South Pacific Mozuzku Tonga (SPM Tonga) also helped us by sponsoring ten packs of seaweeds towards our fundraiser on top of donating 30% of their sales on the day in support of our GO GREEN! initiative.  A couple of our GO GREEN! volunteers were trained and allocated to look after the SPM stall. They provided good customer service, they learned about the SPM Tonga and their products, displayed the products on the stall as they work through the day while promoting and selling the seaweeds to customers on site. This was a great learning experience for our volunteers.  We value and appreciate the collaboration and trust that SPM Tonga placed with us to care for their products, promote and sell them on the day.  Thank you, Lili and Masa for your support.

TYEE GO GREEN managed to raise a total of $881.10, in addition the 30% donation from the SPM Tonga sales of $72.50 which put up our total funds raised on the day to TOP 953.60.
We are humbled and grateful for Rev. Taniela Manu of Kolofo'ou and family who also opened up their home to our GO GREEN! crew to prepare our food for the BBQ fundraiser.  Peni and Sosina Kaivelata also donated some green bananas and our green serving plates to use on the day while reducing the single use of plastics.  A few of our GO GREEN! volunteers also donated some home-baked cakes, muffins and pizzas for sale on top of contributing their time to the BBQ food preparations, decorations and the set up.

Thank you very much to all who came to support, purchase and donate to our BBQ fundraiser and made it a success. TYEE GO GREEN! is truly grateful for the wonderful support, sponsorship, donations received. Without you, we would not be able to achieve the outcome and impact we had anticipated.  We thank you and we look forward to continue this partnership for our TYEE GO GREEN! future events and developments.

We thank our GO GREEN! Volunteers for their tireless effort and commitment to putting up a great event while gaining some real life practical experience and improved soft skills in their preparations for the work and business environment. We would like to acknowledge all the help and contributions made by everyone towards a successful, fun and enjoyable event.  This outcome would not be possible without the leadership and drive of our EVENTS & GO GREEN! Coordinator, Ms. Olive Mafi and her team!

The preparation was accompanied by a short video promo which was published on our
social media pages as follows:

GO GREEN! is a youth-led community initiative which aims to encourage youth to utulise their talents and skills for the betterment of the environment and their future, through recycling of quality clothes. The GO GREEN! concept was developed around waste reduction, affordability and sustainability, with the intention to engage with the youth and encourage them to make ethical and sustainable fashion choices.

GO GREEN! is one of the initiatives that has been created under the third pillar of TYEE core services which is the Youth Entrepreneurship in our effort to address youth unemployment challenges and support youth opportunities in Tonga.

The programme of the GO GREEN! event was held at the Teufaiva LDS Hall, Longolongo started at 10:30am with the welcoming remarks by the MC, Miss. Ilaisaane Manu followed by GO GREEN! Choir with an uplifting song, Hallelujah and the opening prayer by Pres. Ian Tu'ihalangingie of the Teufaiva LDS Chaple.  Miss Olive Mafi, the Event Coordinator who wore many hats in coordinating and leading the GO GREEN! Team delivered a heartfelt and passionate presentation about the journey of the GO GREEN! initiative which captured the audience in tears.  Copies of the Programme were accompanied by GO GREEN! Brochures were handed out to our guests on the day for information.

GO GREEN! initiative was officially marked with the cutting of the ribbons by Mrs. Sinama Tupou Fuao, Director of Youth Division under the Government Ministry of Internal Affairs to open the very first recycled clothes SWAP event. This was followed by her warm and informative remarks speaking to the parents about the importance of their roles at home in raising up their children.

The registered SWAP customers enjoyed a variety of good quality fashions and recycled bottle tops Xmas items produced by our GO GREEN! volunteers for them to shop from using their recycled tokens.  Chosen clothes at the SWAP by our customers were packed and wrapped with gifted ribbons to avoid the use of plastics. The SWAP space was managed by our GO GREEN! volunteers whom they have been trained and assigned to different tasks to take ownership of.
Part 1 of the Programme was completed with an item performed by the Assembly of God's Youth Group. Also attending the GO GREEN! event was Mrs. Lola Liava'a Tonga, Manager of Projects from the Tonga Waste Authority, Principals of Longolongo, Nuku'alofa and Hilliard Memorial Primary Schools, Director of Ordinary Tongan Lives, parents and children of our youth, families and friends.

A brief introduction to GO GREEN! a new TYEE youth-led community initiative aims to encourage youth to incorporate their talents and skills for the betterment of the environment and their future by contributing to climate change through recycling of quality fashion clothes.
GO GREEN! “our home, our future, our responsibility”

The GO GREEN! concept was developed around sustainability, affordability and waste reduction, with the intention to engage with the youth and our business customers, and encourage them to make ethical and sustainable fashion choices.

Through the GO GREEN! we want to offer an alternative to the youth in order to; develop a community spirit; reduce consumption and raise awareness of unethical consumer habits; provide quality and affordable fashion; promote alternative for youth practical work experience; foster creativity and new skills; while reducing the amount of clothing which ends up in landfill.

What Clothing Are Acceptable at GO GREEN!
GO GREEN! is looking at the youth and business customers existing wardrobes at home!! Your unwanted but ‘good quality’ and in ‘good condition’ work-wear, office and corporate attire, evening wear, streets smart and smart casual fashion.  Do not throw them away – recycle them with our GO GREEN!  We look for both male and female fashion; all sizes are welcome.  When you feel good, you look good!
