Today we are pleased to announce the Official Launching of Tonga’s newly not for profit youth support organisation TYEE with the mission to help reduce HIGH rate of youth unemployment in Tonga.

TYEE was first established in 2014 as a registered non-government organisation. The need to establish the organisation arose from the high rate of youth unemployment in Tonga and the increasing number of school-leavers each year who were unable to secure a job.

Today, our youth comprise a large proportion of the nation’s population. However, the simple fact is, there are not enough jobs in Tonga to cater for our growing youth sector population and not everyone who completes their education will get a job. Despite this challenge, it has been our mission to assist our youth to find employment.  For young entrepreneurs who are interested in establishing their own businesses, our goal is to empower youth with relevant information and support to help them get started.   There is no other organisation in Tonga has stepped-up to assist our youth and to bridge the gap like TYEE.  With the right support, Tongan youth can do so much and achieve even more.  To this end, we will do what we can to ensure that our youth are work ready to find meaningful employment and career opportunities, which will ultimately contribute to the livelihoods of their families and to the economic development of Tonga as a whole.

For the past two years ending this November 2016, the focus of TYEE has been set on piloting and developing the first half of the vision; “To become the leading youth employment and entrepreneurship support service organisation in Tonga.” Youth Employment: assisting youth school leavers aged 18-29 to find employment opportunities.  After two fantastic years of trials and errors, challenges and achievements, we have assisted 175 youth into employment opportunities within contracts, part-time, and full-time positions.  Over 90% has gained full time employment and less than 10% comprises contracts and part-time positions.

Today such achievement brings enormous encouragements and empowerment to the work TYEE tries to push through in moving youth of Tonga forward.

The launching of TYEE today is marking with a superb fashion show highlighting various industries, businesses whom our youth had gained employment, not ignoring the sectors which our youth had tapped into but not yet gaining employment.

The program will be held at the Davina’s House Convention Centre at 3:00pm today.  The guest of honour will be Honourable Frederica Tuita Filipe. Prayers by Rev. Sosiua Siola’a from Siasi ‘o Tonga, amongst the Speakers will be Mr. Sione Moala-Mafi, Deputy CEO of the Ministry of Tourism.  The invited guests will be representatives from Diplomatic Offices, Government Offices, Business Owners and CEOs, representatives from NGOs, parents, youth members, staff and Board Members of TYEE.

Way forward, TYEE plans to making some new developments within its Youth Employment initiative.  Additionally, we will also focus on establishing and fostering a new platform for our second part of the vision; Youth Entrepreneurship initiative.
