On Thursday, 31 January 2019 at the Youth Career Centre, TYEE held its first Youth Career Day with over thirty young school leavers attending the event ranging from Diploma Graduates to High School Certificates and school drop outs age 18-29.

For the past three years to 2017, TYEE has been working on developing its Youth Career Centre and brand development for the youth employment programs, support and services.  Last year 2018 TYEE continued to further review and develop its Employment Service strategy to improve its service delivery to its participating youth members and the business communities.  At the same time, TYEE also worked on the second part of its vision and its programs for the youth entrepreneurship and ICT.  And together with the support of key business partners and various local corporate sponsors, TYEE was able to officially launch two new facilities; Youth Tech Incubators Centre (YTIC) and Tonga Youth Market Connect centre (TYMC) last year in responding to its core objectives and the improvement process of the organisation.  As an outcome, a monthly Youth Career Day initiative has been established on top of other core programs and activities to commence this year which started last month, January 2019.

The aim of the Youth Career Day is to raise awareness and inform the grassroots and disadvantaged youth school leavers about the purpose of the organisation, its existing programs and support services that are available at not only the Career Centre but also at the two new centres - YTIC and TYMC.  Two youth entrepreneurs were also displaying their locally made unique products at the TYMC centre to showcase the expected outcome of an enterprising individual who wishes to participate in TYEE's Entrepreneurship and ICT Program. The Career Day also showcased an internal JOB BOARD which has been developed with the available job vacancies within TYEE-YTIC-TYMC and from various TYEE sponsor organisations including the public and government departments within Tonga who are looking for new staff. The job board is available at TYEE Career Centre for all its participating youth members to apply for - post successfully completing the improved TYEE Work Readiness program. This is a value-added component to TYEE's Recruitment Service process so that both its participating youths and business employers at large can benefit too.

Keynote Speaker was Board Member and Entrepreneur; Jessica Afeaki who spoke about her own career path and journey to overcoming barriers and challenges to achieving the goals she is seeing today in her and family businesses in Tonga.  Afeaki was also joined by TYEE President Lusia Latu-Jones, and staff presenting about their respective functions,  programs and services and how youth can join them. The TYEE Career Day was a success with an overview walk-through of TYEE, YTIC and TYMC with each responsible staff member presenting to the participants about the relevant information they need to know about each centre, and why/how they should participate. TYEE would like to thank all the attendees and visitors for their willingness to make a difference in their lives and for making the first TYEE Youth Career Day possible. With the improved programs and expanded support service delivery, comes with the increased costs to effectively reach the people who need it the most.  TYEE's service fees and programs' fees have been carefully revised after a four year fixed term of subsidising its service costs to the national youth of Tonga and the business community employers.  TYEE looks forward to working together with you and your continued support to enable the work that TYEE does in Tonga. The next Youth Career Day will be held on Thursday 28 of February 2019 and more information will be released in due course.

TYEE is currently conducting its 2019 Community Outreach meetings which started in January 2019 and it will be completed in mid-February 2019.  Taking the information and service to the communities where the youths belong early in the year so the youth and their families could make informed decisions about what they want to do to improve their livelihood and future outlook.  The TYEE Community Outreach Team is led by the Marketing/Events & Community Coordinator, Mele 'Ahoafi and the TYMC Team.  So far, the Team has completed 15 Center meetings with all the Police Centers in Tongatapu; [Nuku'alofa, Longolongo, Vaini, Mu'a, Nukunuku], also the Health Centers [Pea, Vaini, Fua'amotu, Mu'a, Holonga, Houma, Kolovai] and the Tonga Development Bank Branches [Nuku'alofa, Lapaha and Nukunuku].

TYEE Community Outreach Team has continued on to the outer villages starting from the West side and making their way all the way to the East side.  The Team has been well received by the town officers, community group leaders and their youth members, and TYEE would like to thank them generously for their heartfelt support.

The goal of this year's Outreach is to continue to reach out and engage 500 young school leavers age 18-29 in the communities to be aware of and be informed with the relevant information about TYEE's mission and the existing and new programs and services.  It is also aiming at engaging the young people with the abilities and talents who are dreaming of learning and creating their own jobs to be made aware of the support services at TYEE, YTIC and TYMC.  This is done in this manner so they can be empowered with the information, new skills development and be connected with the available opportunities and support to being employed and/or becoming an enterprising individual by starting their own small business.

The TYEE Community Outreach is an ongoing annual marketing strategy in our effort to tackle youth unemployment in Tonga with the consideration that not everyone in the grassroots outer communities has access to the internet and ease of transportation.  TYEE for the youth, with the youth and everything youth.
